For years, the agency remained largely unknown and shrouded in secrecy, but recent developments have forced the Space Force to become increasingly public.
The Space Force is the newest branch of the United States military, tasked with defending American interests in space. It was created in 2019 under the Trump administration and officially launched in December 2020. Since then, the agency has been quietly working to stand up its operations, including the recruitment of personnel and the building of infrastructure.
But the Space Force is now making its presence more widely known. In February 2021, the agency released its first public recruitment video, touting its mission to protect American assets in space. The video was a departure from the agency’s previous silence, as it has been reluctant to offer much information about its operations.
The Space Force also recently opened up a website, which provides a window into the agency’s operations, including its mission, personnel, and resources. The website also includes a “contact us” section, allowing Americans to ask questions or offer feedback directly to the agency.
The Space Force is slowly becoming more public as it seeks to develop its operations and gain public support. It remains to be seen what else the agency will do to make its presence known.
