REASON FOR NEW ORLEANS SAINTS VS PHILADELPHIA EAGLES BETTING TIPS
The defending Super Bowl champs are heading down to New Orleans this Sunday to face a Saints’ team that many consider to be the Super Bowl favorites for this year. Eagles QB Carson Wentz will have to rekindle some of their Super Bowl magic from last season if they want to have a chance against the high-powered offense of the Saints. Not to mention that a loss for Philadelphia would most likely end their chances of making the playoffs in a crowded NFC playoff picture.
Philly will be coming into this one fresh off a 27-20 loss to their divisional rival Dallas Cowboys. Dallas came out hot from the very start and was able to score quickly whenever the Eagles brought the game within reach. Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliot was a monster on the ground and QB Dak Prescott played arguably his best game of the season as he completed 26 of his 36 attempts for 270 yards and a touchdown. The Philly defense just didn’t have enough answers for the Dallas offense, which should make them very nervous about facing the red-hot Saints in New Orleans this weekend.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Eagles struggled on the ground yet again. Their leading rusher was RB Josh Adams who had a mere 47 yards, so this forced QB Carson Wentz to air it out 44 times. It seems that the Philly offense has lost its balance and the lack of a credible rushing attack is really hurting the passing game. There’s a lot of problems and injuries in Philly and not much time to fix them.
Things are far more positive in Saints’ land as the boys in gold and black have now won 8 straight since their opening week loss to the Bucs. QB Drew Brees is playing at an MVP level and has the highest Pro Football Focus QB grade at 95. This past week in their 51-14 blowout win over Cincinnati, Brees had as many incompletions (3) as he had touchdowns (3). The RB duo of Ingram and Kamara continues to be deadly, as the two combined for around 260 total scrimmage yards and 3 total TDs in Cincy.
But what has been equally as impressive is the Saints’ defense, which has now given up 20 points or less in four of their last six games. If the defense can continue to get better week after week, then its going to be hard to beat this Saints’ team, especially in the Superdome.
With all this in mind, we love the Saints on the double result to win both at halftime and the full game. New Orleans has been a great first half team all season and should continue to put up points against a banged up Eagles defense. The Eagles have struggled to find a rhythm this year and definitely won’t be able to find it in the first half on the road. The Saints should grab the lead early and hold on until the end as the Eagles simply won’t be able to keep up with New Orleans’ scoring capabilities.
We also like the Saints to cover the spread, as we don’t think Philly will be able to keep up. The Saints have a great run defense so the Eagles’ offense will most likely become one-dimensional. Philly has only scored 24 or more in two of their games this season, and that just won’t cut it against a Saints’ team that will reach for 40 against a horribly injured Eagles’ secondary. The Saints should roll and win by double digits.
Lastly, we like the over on the Saints’ team total at 33.5. The Saints have reached that mark in 5 of their 9 games, with another being right at 33. It can’t be stressed enough that the Eagles’ top 3 defensive backs are all injured so Brees and the Saints’ offense should be able to score at will. The Saints very well could reach 40 and it helps that HC Sean Payton is not a fan of letting up when they have a large lead.
